Speeding through a red-light in a heavily trafficked intersection causes chaos, confusion, or collisions - the cause-and-effect that likely occur when traffic laws aren’t heeded. Yet, for some reason, people often think that keeping God’s laws will make us legalistic when they’re more apt to make us safe from spiritual chaos, confusion, and collisions.
Interestingly, the longest chapter in the Bible, Psalm 119, focuses every verse on some aspect of God’s law aka precepts, commandments, rules, statutes, instructions - all of which point to God’s word, will, and way.
These guidelines from the Almighty God come with blessings and benefits, which Psalm 119 also reveals:
- God’s law brings light and helps us to make wise decisions.
- God’s statutes give us confidence in knowing what’s true, good, and right in God’s eyes.
- God’s precepts counsel, guide, and comfort.
- God’s instructions are clear, pure, trustworthy, and unchanging.
- God’s guidelines clarify our motives, strengthen our character, and keep us from being full of pride.
- God’s word give us discernment, understanding, joy, mercy, peace, and companionship with others who love God.
- God’s law keeps the universe in motion and reveals the beauty and artistry of creation.
- God’s way is cause for thanks and praise.
Heavenly Father, help us to embrace and obey Your will in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
